New Tech, New Gear

Now that it’s 2025, we have new tech that is readily available.  This means new types of gear can be easier to acquire.

Drones & Robotics

Drones and robots are fairly easy to come by in 2025.  It helps if you are engineering-inclined, but anyone can learn to operate a drone or program/build a robot.  These units can be an extra set of eyes, run cameras, and can be used for surveillance.

3D Printers

If you have a 3D printer, or are considering getting one, start by looking into materials you want to be able to print.  You can get metal filament (titanium, aluminum, high carbon iron, stainless steel, etc) if you are interested in designing and 3D printing your own helmet, armor, and gadgets.  To practice with cheaper material, like PLA filament, you can check Thingiverse for “helmet”. https://www.thingiverse.com/

Smart Glasses

Smart glasses are primarily set up to operate music, a camera, phone calls, etc.  This can be useful, especially if you prefer to have tech on head (hands free).  Popular brands are: Ray Ban, Lucyd, XReal, TCL Nxtwear, Amazon Echo Frames, Viture Pro, Solos, Even Realities, Google Glass, Vuzix, and Vue Glasses.

Aerogel

This material is 99.8% air.  That doesn’t sound like much, but it is a super barrier for heat and cold.  Aerogel blankets, which are specialty insulation, are often used for heat shields and as cryogenic insulation.  You can purchase these blankets (expensive) to create high-tech winter uniforms.  This should be used in the same way you would use padding - over key areas of the body as “inserts” or sewn-in panels.

Smart Watch with GPS

If you are a watch-wearing person, you might find a smart watch handy, especially if it has GPS and maps.  I’m going to only recommend Garmin for this, even though there are some additional smart watches out there that can handle the same thing.  Garmin is just super reputable and rugged.  You can use the smart watch for: time/clock features, heartrate, maps/GPS, LED flashlight, Garmin pay, music, wellness, weather, text/phone, calendar, and voice command.  In particular, these features are for the Garmin Tactix 8.

Bodycams & GPS Tracking

Bodycams are easy to come by. They come in a variety of designs, but most are fairly sleek. What you want to look for is picture quality. Don't go for a cheap camera because you're going to end up with a crappy camera with bad picture. Aim for something that has picture quality that you like. GPS Trackers range from cheap to expensive. A lot of them do nearly the same thing, but what you're paying for is range of the tracker itself. Check out the specs and compare before making a final decision.

It doesn't take a ton of money to get some cool tech. These are all things that are obtainable by working a standard full time job and putting some funds into savings.

Herocore is always interested in new tech. If there is something you'd like to see covered, leave a comment or use the website contact form.
